Patrick Tarlton - Letter to Industry*

August 28, 2015
Patrick Tarlton

Over the past week, I’ve had the opportunity to travel across the state meeting many of you in the industry – families, business owners, ranchers, breeders, and deer enthusiasts. One thing is certain; this industry is built on hard work, perseverance, and passion.  I am humbled by the opportunity before me as the newly-appointed Executive Director of the Texas Deer Association. It is certainly a duty that my family and I do not take lightly.

During my short tenure, I have come to understand the storied past of our industry. We are truly the leaders in our field. Our passion and creativity are fueling uncharted growth across the state. We are paving the way for the future of our industry right now.

I am excited about this new role, and I hope to make sure our industry continues to have the opportunity to develop and expand.  I intend to ensure the Texas Deer Association advocates for the betterment of our members and our wildlife resources on a daily basis. My goal for the industry is nothing less than unparalleled success.

Make no mistake; we have one hell of a fight on our hands. For the past decade of my life, I have been involved in industries that have constantly battled the federal government and over-reaching, unelected bureaucracy. I have too often seen the effects of failed Presidential policies and agency mandates. Unfortunately, we are now facing similar challenges right here at home. Let me be the first to say, Texans deserve better.

It is incumbent upon myself and the rest of the staff at TDA to represent your interests to the best of our ability. Not only ensuring that the deer industry in Texas remains healthy, but also protecting your right to do business, defending your private property rights, and preserving our hunting heritage.

With great challenges comes great opportunity. This is truly an industry comprised of landowners, enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and conservationists. We have the opportunity to stand together with one voice – to truly galvanize our industry toward one common goal. I have no doubt we will prevail. We will come out on top.

I look forward to meeting you all very soon. Please don’t hesitate to contact me to share your input and guidance. I have a tremendous amount to learn and I intend to hit the ground running. Thank you!

Patrick Tarlton

Executive Director, Texas Deer Association
